IRISH WALL ART PIECE

ART NOUVEAU- MOLDED MAJOLICA VICTORIAN FIREPLACE TILE-IRELAND BRING A BIT OF IRELAND TO YOUR HOME

• Style: Art Nouveau • Technique: Embossed majolica • Maker: unmarked- in style of Richards • Dimensions: 6" x 6" • Date: early 1900s

A highly stylised floral design with bold flowerhead and sweeping foliage,.a slightly unusual combination of an unrestrained art nouveau flower-draped with a swag like leaves and droppers almost hidden in the background. [see last pix- a medallion jewelry neck piece of the Victorian era- ] Super colours, the background is that wonderful deep rich green favoured at that time. A fantastic and usual six colour tile with aqua bluey-green leaves lined with a darker green, The mauve and yellow/yellow green in the flowerhead make a great focal point to the tile. An addition colour [ very unusual to have this many different colours in a tile] in a rich blue within the mauve makes a spectacular accent. One of the most unusual and elaborate tiles I have seen...making it very unique and special. The back of the tile is relatively clean with some light browning from the heat of the fireplace tile. A delicate crackling of the tile is also evident due to the heat adding to the character of the piece. We can attest that this tile is an Irish collectible and that is genuine Victorian. We removed it from an old cast iron fireplace ourselves in the 1980s when we had a cast iron fireplace and antique business in Dublin. We have saved a few of these old Irish tiles [ all tiles made in England at the famous pottery mills] and brought them to USA. These tiles are now collector's items and it is quite rare to find the originals. If you go online, these tiles sell anywhere from $25 to Hundred of dollars/euros depending on style and manufacturer A tile as unusual and elaborate as this would be highly sought after by a collector. The frame is handcrafted from solid oak which was painted a rich deep gold to accent the deep green background of the tile. With the frame, the wall art piece measures 9.5 w x 10 h x 1.5 deep
